Kronos Quartet is Named “Best New Music Ensemble” by SFCV

San Francisco Classical Voice, a long-running website with a mission to “serve the arts community and its audiences with the highest-quality, free, original journalism,” has announced the results of its third-annual Best of the Bay reader poll. Unsurprisingly, Kronos Quartet won the award for Best New Music Ensemble. “We can’t quibble with giving the laurels to the Kronos Quartet in this category,” the site explains, because “their cumulative impact on the new-music scene in the Bay Area and around the globe is undeniable and ongoing.” Read the full feature here.

Kronos Quartet, who in their four-decade-long career have collaborated with everyone from Asha Bhosle to David Bowie, are currently at radio with Folk Songs. The critically-acclaimed record, with contributions from Natalie Merchant, Rhiannon Giddens, Sam Amidon, and Olivia Chaney, continued its long run on the NACC 200 this week and even moved up a few slots thanks to new charting stations. The album is a perfect fit for audiences that hunger for intelligent, progressive Americana.
