No Depression has a beautiful feature on Tanbark, whose self-titled sophomore album has been hailed as “timeless” by yet another publication! The seminal alt.country magazine opines that the LP “reflects a sense of rootedness”” and “further cements them in the folk tradition thanks in large part to their evolving and maturing songwriting and storytelling dexterity.” The feature brings up several quite lofty comparisons, writing that the band’s songs blend “the coolness of Tom Petty with the sheer honesty of Neil Young, not to mention a bit of Fleetwood Mac thrown in for good measure.” Throwing around names like that might seem hyperbolic, but we’re here to tell you: believe the hype! Tanbark really is that good.
