The Santa Barbara Independent has an interview with Eric D. Johnson, the self-described “relentless” force behind Fruit Bats. According to Johnson, whose longevity in the music industry is quite impressive, “Fruit Bats never really got big, but getting to play in the Shins for a few years made it so that I could focus on music moving forward. I’ve been mega-lucky, and patient.” Read the full interview with Johnson, who has also played as part of Vetiver, here.
Of course, Johnson is being quite humble about the scope of his project. Fruit Bats have released records for Sub Pop and most recently Merge, which put out Gold Past Life just last month. The record hit a new NACC peak yesterday, breaking into the Top 20 in its second week at Radio 200. Get Gold Past Life spinning now.
