KPCC Interviews The Bird And The Bee

The Bird and The Bee recently stopped by the KPCC studios to sit down with John Horn, host of the daily show The Frame. The duo released their newest album recently, on which they cover David Lee Roth-era Van Halen tracks. On it, they chose to fully remove Eddie Van Halen’s guitar parts and replace them with a more “pop-ish” keyboard sound, presenting an original take on Van Halen. Inara George, the band’s multi-talented vocalist, speaks about what it is like to sing misogynistic lyrics that objectify women. The goal of the project, according to George and her musical partner Greg Kurstin, was to bring attention to the perhaps-underappreciated musicality underlying the bombastic words, costumes, and guitar histrionics. Hear the interview here.
