Devendra Banhart Tells American Songwriter About The Making Of Ma

In a recent interview with American Songwriter, Devendra Banhart explains how his songs have changed on his new album Ma. About the lyrical content, Banhart says, “I noticed that there weren’t any characters. I wasn’t really writing as somebody else, which is something I always do. Every record there’s about three or four character songs, but on this record it’s just me talking to something that doesn’t really exist.” Learn more about the process, and about how Banhart “annoyed” Cate Le Bon and Vashti Bunyan into participating on the album, here.

See Devendra Banhart on his tour, which begins tomorrow night.
