Flood Shares Devendra Banhart’s Carole King-Inspired “Taking A Page;” Pitchfork Shares His “Song I Wish I Wrote”

FLOOD has the video for “Taking A Page,” a song from Devendra Banhart‘s album Ma that the songwriter says comes from a lyric borrowed from Carole King. Banhart got permission from the legendary artist, who he credits with helping him navigate the emotional fallout after Donald Trump claimed victory in the 2016 presidential election. “I do remember the night Trump won—the shock and fear,” Banhart recalls. “I instinctively reached for a Carole King album. I knew it would help.” Read more, and see the clip for “Taking A Page,” here.

Pitchfork also hosted Banhart recently for a “Song I Wish I Wrote Feature.” “I think this is the perfect song,” the alt-folk pioneer says of “Willow” by Joan Armatrading. Check out the feature here, in which Banhart explains how the song’s words compliment the music being played.
