New Music From Sunny War

Originally from Nashville, Sunny War spent her formative years in Los Angeles’ punk scene, hopping trains from a tender age and living homeless on the streets. Her last two albums, With The Sun and Shell Of A Girl, were recorded at Venice’s Hen House Studios and move freely between musical genres, anchored by her self-taught finger-style guitar work. The albums have led to critical success, a Tiny Desk Concert and a World Cafe Live session, and a prestigious booking at this year’s Newport Folk Festival.

Like most touring musicians, Sunny War was forced to cancel nearly all of her upcoming performances due to concerns about COVID19. As an independent musician, she relies on touring and playing live shows to pay rent, eat, and live. This EP, featuring four brand new songs and available on Bandcamp, is a fundraiser. Please let listeners know that, by paying what they can for the EP, they are supporting an artist in need. Sunny War will be back on the road as soon as it’s safe.

Best Soul On Bandcamp: March 2020. The EP unflinchingly addresses the darker side of the crisis… [and] amidst this darkness … offers a ray of hope. It’s a reminder that we only have each other right now, and that our kindness during this crisis is the only thing that will get us through. It also offers something else that’s just as important: the acknowledgment that sometimes we all need a good cry. War gives us a safe space to do just that.” -Bandcamp

“[Sunny War’s songs] evoke a wondrous, breathless beauty and are filled with hypnotic, acoustic calm. Her songs are exemplified by her tender voice, her unique style of guitar playing and her ability to touch the listener’s heart with her lyrics.” –WXPN’s World Cafe

“I was stunned silent [by Sunny War] …  a voice that’s strong when it should be, fragile when it MUST be, self-taught fingerstyle guitar work, and a collection of songs almost without peer…” -American Highways
