Mike Viola Joins Adam Schlesinger Tribute Lineup

Mike Viola, whose new album Godmuffin is at radio now, will be appearing as part of a star-filled tribute to Adam Schlesinger on May 5. Schlesinger, the multifaceted songwriter and frontman of Fountains of Wayne, died last year near the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. Viola – who worked on several projects with Schlesinger and sang lead vocals on the Schlesinger-penned theme for the movie That Thing You Do! – was greatly impacted by his longtime friend’s death, and that experience in turn impacted the songs on Godmuffin. It’s appropriate, then, that he’ll be joining artists including Courtney Love, James Iha, Peter Buck, Fred Armisen, Sean Lennon, Mickey Dolenz and more to pay tribute as part of a virtual concert to benefit The Bowery Electric and MusicCares.
