Willamette Week Praises Animal Eyes, Earmilk Premieres “Zeke, The Wizard”
Willamette Week has praise for Animal Eyes‘ new LP, writing that “the band has grown significantly since it moved to Portland from Alaska five years ago, and Where We Go is the quintet’s most complete record to date, with clean production that manages to set free—not stifle—the inherent wildness of the band.” The review compares the band to Animal Collective, noting the appropriateness of the album’s cover image of “an animated land mass floating seemingly in orbit, just waiting to be explored.” Explore the review, and hear single “Mushroom Hunter,” here.
Last week, we shared the band’s freakish video for “Mushroom Hunter.” The strangeness doesn’t stop on “Zeke, the Wizard,” a video of another standout track from the album that has premiered via Earmilk. Of the song, the site writes that “The composition oozes a newfound and earnest ambition heralded in by an orchestral horn section at its onset, followed by the entrance of feral and almost pained vocals of lead singer Sam Tenhoff,” whose delivery Earmilk compares to Neutral Milk Hotel‘s Jeff Mangum.
