Devendra Banhart Talks to The Observer, Goes on KALX Today at 11am PST
In a long and involved interview with The Observer, Devendra Banhart discusses his creative process as well as the intersections – or lack thereof – between his music and visual art. One of the most interesting parts of the conversation between Banhart and interviewer Justin Joffe is their discussion of the intersection between Japanese music and tropicália, a connection that Banhart explores thoroughly on his new LP Ape In Pink Marble. The sweeping convo also includes discussion of some of the lyrical motivations behind the LP, as well as how the loss of some close friends and family members inspired its mood and timbre. Read the whole thing right here.
Today at 11am PST (2pm EST), Berkeley, CA’s KALX 90.7 FM will air another interview with Banhart. Stream it here, and make sure Ape In Pink Marble is in your CMJ Top 30 tomorrow!
