Marc Maron Talks To Mount Eerie

Marc Maron recently invited Phil Elverum, who records under the moniker Mount Eerie and formerly as The Microphones, for a conversation on the WTF Podcast. Elverum has engaged in several candid interviews around his new album A Crow Looked At Me, his visceral response to losing his wife Geneviève Castrée to cancer. Here, the interview deeply explores Elverum’s LP, but it differs from many of his recent interviews in that it doesn’t merely linger on the record’s tragic subject matter. Elverum and Maron discuss the songwriter’s personal history, his musical awakening as a teenager, his views on religion, the beautiful story of his relationship with Castrée, and their experience of caring for her and their daughter during her illness. While the album’s subject matter is dark, the WTF interview is thoroughly charming, insightful, and enjoyable — even joyful. All fans of Elverum and/or Maron should have a listen right here.
