Redbrick Says Phil Elverum Achieves “A Lot With A Little” On The Microphones in 2020
In a review of The Microphones in 2020, Redbrick’s Ben Forsdick admits that the new release from Phil Elverum has a long, repetitive intro that might be challenging for some listeners. However, he contends, “as this piece progresses past the opening passage, there is little else to complain of.” Forsdick hails Elverum’s “consistently vivid” lyrical imagery and the album’s “crisp and varied” mixing and production, coming to the conclusion that Elverum has “succeeded in achieving a lot with a little in the case of this album” which is “consistently creative.”
