Goldmine Loves Inara George’s “Instantly Engaging” New LP
According to Goldmine, “Inara George possesses some stirling DNA. The daughter of the late Lowell George, the prime mover of Little Feat early on and one-time guitarist for Frank Zappa, she was in an ideal position to take advantage of his musical DNA when instigating a career all her own.”
Yet, the site continues, “George doesn’t trade on her father’s famous trajectory and instead chooses to make music that is specifically tied to her own whims and resources. As a result, the new album offers a pleasant jazz-lite approach that’s instantly engaging and flush with quiet, calming appeal. That’s not to say she’s always worked independently; she was half of the duo known as the Bird and the Bee, and a member of an all-star trio dubbed The Living Sisters, as well as a temporary contributor to a pair of fleeting combos, Lode, as well as Merrick. With [her new album Songs of Douglass and Littell] she defines herself as an alluring chanteuse, with airy, effervescent offerings such as ‘Tired Butterfly,’ ‘LA Lune S’en Va’ and ‘Ice Cream In Bed’ providing individual examples of her undeniable charm and a reliable reputation that’s clearly well deserved. These sensual sounds make for an immediate appeal.”
