SPIN Says Souled American Feels Vital On New LP

SPIN Magazine has a review of the new Souled American album, their first in 30 years. They write, “Sanctions distills what was great about Souled American, channeled through its two remaining members. Though each songwriter’s individual preoccupations and quirks are on display here, the interplay between Joe Adducci and Chris Grigoroff makes this feel like a joint effort. It’s no faint praise that Jeff Tweedy wrote, ‘The one song I wish I wrote is ‘Before Tonight’ by Souled American.’ You can hear the band’s influence on Wilco and so many others. Sanctions sounds like it has been transmitted from a different time. It doesn’t matter if it came out in 1995 or 2026, there is nothing anachronistic about it.” The full review is here.
