New Music From foamboy
foamboy is a West Coast pop duo, comprised of producer Wil Bakula and vocalist Katy Ohsiek, that creates jazz-inspired danceable pop with a hyper-personal lyrical edge. Bakula and Ohsiek have been collaborating musically since 2016. Their debut record My Sober Daydream, released in 2021, immediately launched them to indie success, earning recognition from KCRW, Consequence of Sound, and Week in Pop. Their second album, Eating Me Alive, was released in 2024 and charted on KCRW and several college radio stations across the country; the group toured the West Coast that summer, as well as playing festivals like Pickathon, Timberfest, and Belltown Bloom.
Now, after releasing an EP and a few singles, the group is excited to be releasing their next album, STUPID HOT. The new album sees foamboy taking a turn to more house-inspired dance tracks, with moody synth swells and haunting vocal melodies. Lyrically, the album deals with themes of self-alienation, aging, climate change, and failing to live up to the expectations of others.
“[‘Loud Boy’] is another soulful electro-pop hit… PVC bass, jittery guitar riffs, and starry synths; the elements are familiar but producer Wil Bakula and vocalist Katy Ohsiek find a way of forming them into something new.” – Beats Per Minute
“Fixated on distorted psych sounds and intent on injecting them with dance-floor appeal, ‘Book and a Cold’ and ‘Summering’ are respectively disco-laden and haunting songs that suggest the new foamboy record might be their adventure of a lifetime—the very reason that psychedelic music exists.” – Treble Zine
