Beatique Talks Kommunity FK History With Patrik Mata

In a 2025 interview, Beatique’s Liz O. spoke with Kommunity FK founder Patrik Mata about the band’s origins in the late 1970s Los Angeles punk scene and the making of their influential 1983 debut, The Vision and the Voice. In the interview, Mata recalls drawing inspiration from the Sex Pistols as well as Dadaism, Surrealism, and German Expressionism, incorporating those influences into the band’s distinctive sound and lyrics. The interview also touches on the band’s enduring influence, its multigenerational fanbase, and an archival recording of a wild 1981 performance opening for Killing Joke at the Whisky a Go Go.

Mata also discusses his longstanding relationship with Independent Project Records and why the label’s distinctive artwork and packaging make it the ideal home for the band’s reissues. That partnership continues with the newly remastered “Tribulations,” out now via IPR and at radio now! Read the full interview here.
