On Monday Rolling Stone premiered the new video for Blak & Blu opener “Ain’t Messin’ Around“. The video shows Gary Clark Jr walking into a house party while his band (including a substantial horn section) plays him in. As soon as he gets up on stage and begins to play and sing, the party gets going. Color separated freeze frame shots and dancing ensue. Watch it below:

The record is both ethereal and grounded, evoking a deep sense of introspection and blending narrative lyrics with one-take lead vocal performances, cinematic arrangements, rich soundscapes, and lush orchestration. Vollebekk – who self-produced and plays piano, guitar, bass, B3 organ, harmonica, accordion and Moog synthesizer – compiled an impressive supporting cast including drummer Jim Keltner, steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Rod Stewart), and bassist Shahzad Ismaily. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Arctic Monkeys, Tracy Chapman) and mastered by Greg Calbi.
