Vancouver indie rock group Bend Sinister released a new video for “Black Magic Woman” off their latest album Small Fame. The group paired up with the talented Vancouver Academy of Music Student Orchestra for a live set they gave in December. Between the soulful guitar solos and the tight orchestral arrangements, this rendition accentuates the big rock tones found on their new album. Take a look at the video:

The record is both ethereal and grounded, evoking a deep sense of introspection and blending narrative lyrics with one-take lead vocal performances, cinematic arrangements, rich soundscapes, and lush orchestration. Vollebekk – who self-produced and plays piano, guitar, bass, B3 organ, harmonica, accordion and Moog synthesizer – compiled an impressive supporting cast including drummer Jim Keltner, steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Rod Stewart), and bassist Shahzad Ismaily. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Arctic Monkeys, Tracy Chapman) and mastered by Greg Calbi.
