John Vanderslice – SF Chronicle Interview

San Francisco-based John Vanderslice has had quite the year. After returning from tour to find his partner of six years suddenly leaving, he found found himself in a state of trauma. Instead of grieving at home, surrounded by reminders of his past, Vanderslice took to the wide open Northern Californian wilderness, spending weeks enveloped by the sound of nature & hiking hundreds of miles. “It changed how I approached music,” he told the San Francisco Chronicle. “The romantic poets used to say the rhythm of walking freed up something in their minds. It absolutely happened to me.” Through Kickstarter, he was able to crowdsource the funds to release another album and reached his goal in 2 1/2 hours!
