EDJ Going For Adds

Eric D. Johnson of the Fruit Bats is back with a solo project, EDJ, whose self-titled debut will be released later this summer on Easy Sound Recording Company. Unlike the music of the Fruit Bats, Johnson‘s solo project deviates from happy songs and major chords, striving for a more emotionally ambiguous sound.

With the help of various collaborators, such as Andy Cabic of Vetiver, James Mercer of The Shins and Tim Rutili from Califone, Eric Johnson has begun exploring different sonic and emotional landscapes. The foundation for EDJ‘s debut is undoubtedly Johnson‘s immense capacity for storytelling, both instrumentally and lyrically.

Reflecting on his solo debut, Eric Johnson quite appropriately says: “These are simple stories, some about losses, a few about disappointment and regret, but also of hope and perseverance. I hope you like these melancholy grooves and existential make-out songs. These all mean something to me, I hope they will to you, too.”
