New Music From Imaginary Cities
Winnipeg’s Imaginary Cities is Rusty Matyas (ex-The Waking Eyes, The Weakerthans‘ collaborator) and vocalist Marti Sarbit. The group crafts indie-pop songs which range from the driving and soaring to gloomy and introspective; all similar to that of their musical peers (Metric, Stars) but with the smoky haze of a Nina Simone song. After their debut album, Temporary Resident, received a longlisted nomination for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize, they were invited to open for The Pixies late last year. The group is recording a new album but we’re so excited to work with them, we’re making a couple tracks from their heralded debut album and an exclusive, bonus track available now.
