The Melodic‘s debut album Effra Parade is going for adds this week. The South London band creates an afro-folk-pop sound inspired by 60’s folk and worldly sounds. Some songs use instruments such as the Charango, Melodica and Kora to create a music that defies categorization and exhibits a clear reverence for past masters from Paul Simon to Bert Jansch. The Melodic‘s last EP On My Way premiered with Paste Magazine and they made it NYC to play CMJ Music Marathon this year. Songs like “Roots” have the lilt of Nico while others like “Plunge” offer arrangements and rhythms reminiscent of Beirut.
RIYL: The Decemberists, Beirut, Belle & Sebastian, The Magnetic Fields
Recommended Tracks: Track #2 “On My Way”, track #8 “Ode to Victor Jara”, track #7 “Runaway”, track #6 “Roots”
