Papercuts Going for Adds
San Francisco’s Papercuts is the multifaceted singer / songwriter / producer Jason Quever. His latest effort on Life Among the Savages offers up a unique blend of baroque, chamber, and psych-pop; resulting in Quever’s most precise production to date. Recorded in his San Francisco studio, Quever’s haunting melodies coupled with jangly guitar hooks and whimsical string arrangements serve as the backdrop to an artist in reverie. The album’s most blissful moments can be found in the title track “Life Among the Savages” where Beach House‘s Alex Scally’s arrangement contribution elevates the track’s dreamy sound. Other album highlights include the cinematic opener “Still Knocking At The Door” and the hypnotic “Staring At the Bright Lights”, all of which refine the chamber pop sound. After precedent releases on Devendra Banhart & Vetiver‘s label, Gnomonsong, and Sub Pop, Life Among the Savages proves to be Papercuts‘ strongest, most concise release to date. It’s a breathtakingly raw assortment of songs perfectly crafted for Quever’s sincere storytelling, impeccable production, and unique batch of unforgettable melodies.
”Opening track “Still Knocking At The Door” is lovely and calming song, brimming with ornate strings, spacious drums, and Quever’s whispery falsetto.”
– Consequence of Sound
“Quever croons over dreamy strings arrangements and delicate guitar. In an a exceedingly honest effort, Quever watches from afar as he copes with over a decade of the alienating lifestyle of a struggling songwriter.”
