Utne Reader Features Lael Neale and Aqueduct

The Utne Reader has curated an excellent September music mix, including music from both Lael Neale and Aqueduct. Of Neale, whose song “Born in the Summer” is featured, Utne says, “She writes deep and soul-baring folk music that has earned her appropriate comparisons to Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten with a hazy vocal quality that brings to mind Hope Sandoval.” Regarding Aqueduct’s “The Ballad of Barbarella,” Utne notes the song’s paranoiac lyrical motifs that go along with “theremin, synthesizer and bass [that] dart around each other propulsively.” Read the whole thing, and check out a great mix that finds Neale and Aqueduct alongside Langhorne Slim and Banda de los Muertos, here.

Lael Neale and Aqueduct are both still at radio, with the albums I’ll Be Your Man and Wild Knights. Highlight them to your DJs.
