Exclaim Embraces Junun, PT Anderson Discusses Doc at NY Film Festival

“With Junun,” writes Exclaim, “Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood and the Rajasthan Express succeed in creating a textured and energetic collection of songs that transcend genre and the generalizations often used when describing non-Western music.” In its strong review of the album, the Canadian indie authority praises the collaborative LP as “music to be embraced and celebrated,” offering readers descriptions of a few “particularly striking pieces” that highlight the diversity of a record that sounds truly unique and inspired. Read it here.

Junun isn’t just an album; it’s also a documentary that was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who accompanied producer Nigel Godrich to India to bear witness to the creation of the project. Anderson recently discussed the film after a screening of it at the New York Film Festival, and Nonesuch has audio of the discussion here.

Junun had a great debut week with CMJ, bowing at #162 on Radio 200 and #9 at World. Help propel it to a new peak on the last charts of the year !
