Kan Wakan “Molasses” Goes For Adds

Kan Wakan is Gueorgui Linev—the producer, composer, synthesizer scientist, film score fanatic and multi-instrumentalist whose highly-acclaimed full-length debut Moving On dissolved the genre-breaking electronica of Massive Attack, Air, and Zero 7 into a bottomless sea of 20th century minimalism, psychedelic soul, and ambient atmosphere. It’s been two years since the release of Moving On, and 2016 will mark a new chapter for the 27-year-old Bulgarian-born, Los Angeles-based musician who has produced or worked with artists as diverse as Thundercat, Moses Sumney, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Arctic Monkeys.

In a change from Moving On, which featured one vocalist throughout, Linev’s upcoming triple LP Phantasmagoria incorporates multiple guest singers. Debut track “Molasses,” picked by KCRW as “Today’s Top Tune” this Wednesday, employs the ethereal vocals of close friend Elle Olsun on a lavlshly-arranged song composed by Linev on his grandmother’s piano during a recent visit to his hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria.

“Combining warm, modern R&B and chillwave with a soulful country edge, Kan achieves an extremely innovative and captivating sound with this single.” – Hillydilly

“Slick, spacious, dub pop, trip hop smash” – Noisey
