Trouser Press Tells Savage Republic’s Story

Trouser Press – the original bible of the undergound rock and punk scenes – has an overview of Savage Republic‘s career. The seminal band has two records at radio right now – Africa Corps Live at the Whisky 30th December 1981, which was just released by Independent Project Records, and the 40th anniversary edition of their debut album Tragic Figures, put earlier this year by Real Gone Music in association with IPR. Of the band’s early years, Trouser Press writes, “The twin-bass lineup (plus some outside assistance) yielded an arty, industrial ensemble which serenaded cement walls with lightly droning grates of monotone guitar, exotic percussion and noisy, ranted vocals… A combination of industrial drone with deep machine-like swaths of dragging bass, Halloween horror-movie screams and some of the most delightfully tribal and tropical percussion found on disc, Tragic Figures also introduced a touch of Arabic cat slink…”
