Jazzwise Interviews Mary Halvorson

Jazzwise has a conversation with Mary Halvorson about the creation of her twin albums, Amaryllis and Belladonna, and much more, including details about her days of learning guitar – “My right hand is weaker although I naturally picked up a guitar right handed (despite Jimi Hendrix being a childhood inspiration). I had to work at my pick work to get it up to speed with my left hand. I like having a strong attack and I value clear articulation. But it’s something I have to keep up. Like you have to have a jog every day if you want to be a runner. I have to keep those muscles in shape.” There’s a lot more in this article here – check it out!

Amaryllis and Belladonna – two boundary-pushing albums with unique sounds – are at radio now from Nonesuch Records.
