Nashville station WNXP featured Sunny War‘s Anarchist Gospel as its album of the week last week, writing that “This album is the balance between good and bad. It represents someone’s story through the worst parts of life, but also follows the story of someone preserving. Sunny War’s vulnerability on Anarchist Gospel is bold and brave, but for her it was needed to be the process of healing.” The site has an extensive feature on the record, which quotes War as she explains the sonic impact of her background singers on the record – well-known artists Allison Russell, David Rawlings, Jim James, and Chris Pierce – as well as the mark made by producer Andrija Tokic. “I liked Andrija’s records, and I didn’t know I had a bunch of his records already, it just made sense to me,” she says. Anarchist Gospel had a big week at NACC and NACC Folk last week. Thanks to all of the stations that have gotten on board!
