JJA Nominates Mary Halvorson
The Jazz Journalists Association has nominated Mary Halvorson for 2024 Guitarist of the Year. The Nonesuch Records website notes that “her new album, Cloudward, features eight new compositions she performs with her sextet Amaryllis—the improvisatory band that performed on her acclaimed 2022 albums Amaryllis and Belladonna: Patricia Brennan (vibraphone), Nick Dunston (bass), Tomas Fujiwara (drums), Jacob Garchik (trombone), and Adam O’Farrill (trumpet). Laurie Anderson is featured on the track “Incarnadine.” Jacob Garchik, who is also part of Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, is up for Trombonist of the Year.” Read Nonesuch’s announcement here.
