New Music From Alon Aboutboul

Born in 1965, Alon Aboutboul is a renowned actor, singer, and painter based in Los Angeles who is known for roles in The Dark Knight Rises, Body of Lies, and Snowfall. He often describes his life as shaped by the mystical imagery of tarot, a theme that flows through his textured melodies and poetic lyrics. Blending performance, painting, and music, Aboutboul creates a dreamlike world where his deep voice and evocative compositions, shaped by collaborators like Rejoicer and The White Screen, paint a vivid, cinematic soundscape.

The collaboration between Aboutboul and Rejoicer marks the peak of a brand new form of cooperation within Raw Tapes: a man of dreams and words meets a man of dreams and sounds. When Dori Sadovnik of Red Axes went looking for a partner in crime to make something fresh with Aboutboul, Rejoicer seemed to be the natural choice. What ensued was a significant two months period in which the two were inseparable, talking and playing and dreaming and scheming in Savyon. In an unprecedented journey of mutual discovery, two masters of their respective trades set out to find a different way of telling a story. The result is a fantastic soundscape with strings of dreamwords woven through it, a true work of art: transcendental, touching and inspirational. ‘Potion of Love’, their new single, is a mysterious yet familiar dreamscape. Aboutboul threads words into the music fabric, each word a shimmering stitch, and lets us in on a secret. Amir Bresler’s impending drums lead the way and the room opens to the sea and its secrets. KerenDun’s ethereal voice weaves its own spell into the tapestry, and Nitai Hershkovits adds a beautiful Satie delicacy on piano before the last chorus sends us away.
