Kent County Daily Times Says Fruit Bats Makes For “Fine Listening”

Kent County Daily Times likes Fruit Bats‘ new LP. “Eric D John­son describes it,” they write, “as his most col­lab­or­at­ive Fruit Bats album to date. Tak­ing it all in, it is hard to argue such a claim. From the songs and sequen­cing of them to John­son’s easy tenor and the music itself, everything seems to click on The Land­fi­ll and not unlike his more recent work in the group Bonny Light Horse­man. Inspired by his mid­west­ern roots, John­son uses those very unnat­ural grassy knolls (i.e., former land­fills) that pop up here and there along the high­ways as a meta­phor for the sub­ject of his writ­ing. There’s a lot under those hills: per­sonal objects, memor­ies, and much more. It makes for quite a power­ful meta­phor and in the pen and voice of John­son with his spo­ton Fruit Bats com­rades-in-arms, it also makes for some very fine listen­ing.” Read more about the album, which is at radio now via Merge, here.
