Souled American Makes 2026 Lists at Country Universe and SPIN

Souled American‘s new album Sanctions is on the Country Universe list of best albums of 2026 so far. The site writes, “Venerable alt-country titans (yes, really) haven’t lost a step. What’s impressive about this set is how, despite a 30 year recording hiatus, they still sound ahead of their time when it comes to their singular brand of knotty, proto-bootgaze. Welcome back, fellas.” See the full list here.

The album also made SPIN‘s list earlier this year. According to that mag, “Imagine a world where Uncle Tupelo didn’t splinter into Wilco and Son Volt but instead vanished for three decades. That’s the best way to sum up Souled American’s surprise return. The time off was worth it as Sanctions doesn’t disappoint. Themes of isolation and sadness weave through this cycle of 12 songs. Joe Adducci and Chris Grigoroff sound like men out of time. But in a world filled with sadness and pain, we need musicians willing to lean into the darkness to pull out the few strands of light that persist.” Check out SPIN’s full list here, and get Sanctions on the radio now.
