38657_01_MiniJktThis week we’ve got new music from Australian duo Falls. Recently signed to Verve Records, Melinda Kirwin and Simon Rudston-Brown once found themselves in a relationship, but the couple split before ever thinking about writing music together. The end of their romantic relationship marked the beginning of their musical careers, when they quickly began writing folk tunes and touring with the likes of The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, and Passenger. Filter Magazine (currently streaming their new EP) calls their music “simple, lush and personal, it’s difficult not to get drawn in.” Their new EP entitled Into the Fire is filled with relaxed folk melodies that tell stories of love, hardship, and Hollywood. With influences like Crosby, Stills and Nash, their sound is reminiscent of The Civil Wars, Lord Huron, and Fleetwood Mac. The chairman of Verve Records, David Foster, says, “Their perfect blend of harmonies and heartfelt songs represent the very best kind of contemporary folk-based music.”
