LA native musician Gregory Ackerman has been recording himself in bedrooms and garages his whole life. In 2018, he teamed up with Pierre de Reeder (Rilo Kiley) to record And Friends, his first studio album. Following a cold-email, Ackerman was signed to Munich/V2 Records in the Netherlands and subsequently toured there twice in 2018. Ackerman’s most recent release, the Mhm Okay EP, is out now from Polymoon Music, a new record label started by Christiaan Nijburg, the A&R representative who initially signed Ackerman to V2.

Ackerman enchants with his latest, folky EP Mhm Okay. Lead single “See You Better”  is a warm and cozy track adorned with sultry organ pads that perfectly complement Ackerman’s tasteful vocals and acoustic guitar pattern. The song’s outro guitar solo adds a touch of minimalism. On “Loving Hours,” recorded live with his band, Ackerman imparts a whimsical reminder to persevere and cherish moments of safety and security. The song captures the authenticity of a live performance blending a slightly uplifting groove with introspective lyrics. His brother Ryan Pollie Ackerman delivers the playful banjos harmonious vocal harmonies and a laid-back yet energetic vocal melody in “Don’t Know Why I Love,” a song that signifies Ackerman’s newfound positive approach to self-expression after his battle with depression. Notably, the standout track “OK to LA”  merges country traditions with pop sensibilities. Overall, the set is a charming collection of warm and cozy Americana songs that encapsulate the essence of folk and indie. Throughout the EP, Ackerman’s lyrics exude a lightheartedness and optimism that are truly charming and unique.
